Brigadier Bandula Rathnapala USP

 

 

Brigadier DGBK Rathnapala USP received his education from Richmond College, Galle and excelled with extra-curricular activities. He was an active participant in Cadetting, Games Athletics, Swimming and Scouting. He was privileged to be the Sergeant of the cadet platoon for two consecutive years. He was also a member of Prefect Guild.


Brigadier Rathnapala joined Sri Lanka Army in 1982 and upon successfull completion of military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy and Pakistan Officers Training School. He was commissioned in 1986 and posted to Engineer Regiment.

 

He has undergone many local and overseas military and academic courses, has participated overseas seminars, workshops and conferences too.


During his military career he has held many command, training and staff appointments at higher formation headquarters, institutions and training establishments.


He served during the period of JVP insurgencies and LTTE terrorism and participated in many major operations conducted in the North and East. Especially in the roll of Engineers and in the role of Infantry as well.


In recognition of his unblemished service he was awarded Uththama Seva Padakkama and several other operational medals.


After completion of 34 years of service he was retired as a Brigadier in 2016. Subsequently, posted to the National Cadet Corps as the Deputy Director at HQ NCC. on the scheme of General Regular Reserve in the same year.
