National cadet Corps conducted its Major Annual event, “Hermann Loos” Boys Assessment Camp on 19th October 2017 at the National Cadet Corps Training Centre, Rantembe. The National Cadet Corps celebrated the centenary of Hermann Loos Challenge Trophy in this year.

Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene MP, State Minister of Defence participated as the Chief Guest for this occation and Mr. Kapila Vaidyaratne PC, The Secretary Ministry of Defence and Mr. Sunil Samaraweera, Secretary of State Ministry of Defence also participated as Guest of Honours. Lieutenant General NUMMW Senanayake RWP RSP USP psc , Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and many senior officers from Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force and Police participated as invited Guests for this occation.

54 Cadet Platoons competed for the Centenary Hermann Loos Challenge Trophy. These platoons had been selected from Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Boys Assessment Camps conducted through out the year at the National Cadet Corps Training Centre.

The Minister awarded trophies to the winning platoons of the competition. De Mazenod College Kandana become the Champion Platoon of the Assessment camp while Nalanda College, Colombo secured runners-up  position. Ibbagamuwa Central College, Kurunegala won the third place of this competition. 2/Lt. Asela Perera of De Mazenod College Kandana was awarded the best commander (Squad Drill) trophy at the presentation of awards ceremony.

Major General AKP Wickramasinghe USP Director National Cadet Corps , Deputy Director and Senior Officers of the corps, Principals, Parents and old Cadets participated in the ceremony. Cadet Delegations from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives also witnessed the parade.
